Step 3. Take practical measures to raise standards
You are now ready to use the practical tools and resources - try things out with smaller groups, and think long term:
- Use the simple online tools to produce a packed lunch advisory leaflet to distribute to parents.
- Use these suggested school newsletter text inserts. These are little articles on healthy lifestyles to insert in your school newsletter.
- Run a Healthy Packed Lunch workshop for parents
- Teach about healthy lifestyles in PSHCE, science and ICT - using the lesson plans provided.
- Recognise and reward effort and achievement with these stickers.
When you have completed the cycle, evaluate progress by returning to step 1, add to your audit, and so on. You can build on improvements by repeating the cycle as before, for the whole school, individual classes, year groups or key stages.
If you have used the online audit tools, it is easier to return to the audit results regularly, as you use the resources progressively throughout your school. There is much to be gleaned from the results tables, and the bigger picture may surprise you!
Use the results of further audits to reinforce the messages you send to parents by updating school food policy, customising your packed lunch leaflets further and recognising and rewarding achievement.
